Bordeaux — France

The problem with South Africans is that they are South Africans. I am tired of walking through the villages where the old men recognise Morne. Morne du Plessis. ( with a little line on the ”e’) Springbok Rugby Captian 1974 -1980.

The owners of the farm where we are staying in Bordeaux, France — and local well known wine makers — have orginized a charity supper here, with Morne as guest speaker for all the rugby people in the area for tomorrow. They sponsor a school in Bakino Faso. Morne will speak ( slowly ) on being the manager of the 1995 Springboks who won the World Cup.

He was in the Clint Eastwood movie called ‘Invictus’ where he had Nelson Mandela wear a Springbok jersey. Him & Mandela are still friends. many considered that Mandela with Morne brought the Africaners together to believe in a new South Africa.

Now I must also speak at this fancy fund-raiser on Friday too. I am going to speak on The Soldier of Orange, Alphons and the day The Dutchman visited the beach at Natures valley.

Now—– to make things much worse !!!!!! We were just sitting down to this great meal by the vineyards when Stephen Tricky arrived. Now, he was our friend way back at Stellenbosch. Unlike us —- he made a success of his life, went to Australia, bought some vineyards, then farms, then whole businesses, then just about the whole country. All I got from this billionaire friend was a Cuban Cigar. But —— !!!! Dan gave him a glass of Koos’ 3rd bottle of Shiraz —– and this wine producer said ” It was one of the best ones he’s ever tasted. The only problem was that Dan only gave him one glass.

So — you see, money can’t buy everything !!!!!
